We have amazing horses, each with a
story to tell; some of our horses have been rescued from awful situations, some
have come from the glamorous life of the racetrack, some have been born here on
the farm - all have tremendous character and nobility of heart, true to
themselves and to us.

Our Horses
We have a wide variety of horses to choose from. They are all well cared for,
friendly and very well schooled. There are Thoroughbred, Arab, Appaloosa,
Friesian, Welsh purebreds and partbreds, Boerperds, and Swazi mountain horses.

Our horses are all well schooled but maintain their individuality.
They are all regularly schooled by members of the staff, and most of them go to
dressage and show jumping competitions at various levels as well.
The horses and ponies that do trails also work in the school which keeps
them interested, supple and obedient.
Some of them even go to competitions as well. This enables us to maintain a
high standard of mount to offer our pupils and visitors.

Meet our Horses
Before you come to visit us we would like to take you on a
"virtual tour" around our stables and introduce you to some of our horses...

Trail and Competition Ponies and Horses

Gypsy Lass
Welsh Basuto pony cross
Grey mare
At Nyanza since 1986
Gypsy is the backbone of our children’s lessons/pony rides/birthday
parties. She even does pony rides at the annual Airshow, not flinching as the
jets flash by overhead. Her youngest rider was just 11 months old,
carefully supervised by Gypsy and her mum!
Cheyenne
Skewbald Swazi Pony mare
Our blue-eyed girl, Cheyenne was one of our rescue cases,
her ears were cut off by her previous owners to mark her -
she looks like a Teddy bear with her blue eyes and is a very sweet children's pony.
Here at Nyanza she is loved and petted by many little hands.
Little Bandit
Bay Swazi Pony gelding
Lived here since 1991
Bandit was on of our rescue case, he still has the old hobble scars from previous
ill treatment, but this hasn't affected his nature - like Beachboy, he is a wonderful all rounder,
and has won many competitions,
but is still the perfect beginners and trail horse.
Many children owe their start in their competitive career
to Bandit
giving them the confidence and inspiration to compete successfully with him in
the arena.
Beachboy
Swazi Pony gelding, a chestnut with flaxen mane and tail
and white spots
At Nyanza since 1994
Beachboy is every riding schools dream all round pony – he
works with beginners and competition riders and also happily participates at birthday parties and
on the trails. Beachboy is the perfect pony for children to go out and get experience in
the arena with, giving them endless confidence and helping them win many
rosettes.
Little Outlaw
Liver chestnut Swazi Pony gelding
Outlaw stole our hearts in 1995
He is very popular on the trails because he is so comfortable and easy
going.
Khweti
Khweti is named after the morning star.
A bay Swazi Pony gelding.
Another rescue case, he has a very calm nature
and is ideal for people on their first time out. Again we find it amazing
that a horse like Khweti can come from an abused background and still give us
his heart and of his best!
Silver
Pixie
Beautiful silver grey Welsh Arab cross
A brave horse who leads any trail anywhere, she has won many prizes in the arena,
and likes to arch her neck and snort like a true Arab.
Tabaris
Skewbald Boerperd/Flamperd cross
A horse bred to work under tough conditions in parts of
South Africa, Tabaris is the horse to take you anywhere or do anything for you.
Jester

Friesan/Percheron/Swazi Pony mixture
Arrived almost black in colour...
He is a gentle giant, super for our adult riders who want a
horse to carry them comfortably and safely and look good at the same time!
Ruwenzori
Brown gelding
Born in the mountains in Swaziland but looks like a Friesan
cross
One of our rescue cases, he was very badly abused and was very suspicious
of people when he first came here. He has since learned to trust and has turned
into a very good school horse, with an aptitude for teaching feel on the flat.
One of the favourites on the trails because of his smooth
comfortable stride.
Chiredzi
A pretty stocky little bay gelding, who was a rescue case,
born in the mountains here in Swaziland
He has notches cut out of his ears by his first owner to
mark him, which gives him a quaint look.
CHiredzi is a very talented pony who has already competed in FEI level
competition.
Savuti
Chestnut gelding, another Swazi pony born in the mountains
Came from the same place as Chiredzi, so has similar
notches cut out of his ears
A sweet natured competition pony with a classy look to him,
who has also competed at FEI level competitions.
Quesha
Dun pony mare
One of our stronger show jumping ponies, who likes a rider
with a competitive spirit
She has won many prizes on the show jumping scene and is a
favourite with the more advanced riders because of her bold nature. Quesha
is aptly
named ‘Out of my way’.
Tucha
Tucha
is one of our home bred horses - she is a sweet Nooitgedacht/Appaloosa cross.
Born in 2003 and broken in at Nyanza she has not yet joined the working team,
but we have high hopes for her.
Tucha is a daughter of the famous Nooitgedacht stallion
Pretman Tornado, who has won many breed classes in South African competition.

Our Boerperds
The Boerperd has been called ‘The horse from the past
for the future’ their history started in 1652, with the arrival of the first
horses in Cape Town, and with careful selection and breeding has been refined
over the years to produce a horse renowned for its hardiness, good temperament,
and performance in all fields. From a family riding horse to a winning
competitive horse, to a horse who can cover the miles day after day, the Boerperd is becoming more and more popular with all types of horseman.
Lang Carel Mkoloni
One of our Registered SA Boerperds, Mkoloni is a very
intelligent horse with a lot of personality. A favourite with our guides because
of his enthusiasm to go anywhere new, he is an ideal trail horse with the looks
of a show pony.
Pandan Belade
A young Registered SA Boerperd, Belade is showing great
promise and is almost ready to start looking for a young rider to take him to
compete seriously. A very sweet natured pony, he loves attention and having
visitors. He is a son of Lekkerkry Bobby, and shows every sign of following in
his fathers footsteps both in looks and ability.
Carel Hancke Karwats
(otherwise known as ‘Ndiza’-to fly )
Ndiza is another of our young horses, a very pretty grey
with a lovely head. Another very talented Registered Boerperd, he is destined
for great things in his life.
The SA Boerperd were developed through history to become
excellent all rounders, from being a loyal family friend to a horse for whole
day rides or for excelling in the competition arena, and Ndiza is a typical
example of this. With his looks he could easily be showing; with his hardiness
he can go anywhere.
Carel Hancke Wakker
(otherwise known as ‘Nakuru’)
Nakuru is a chunky bay Boerperd, like Ndiza, bred at the
famous Carel Hancke stud and equally as scopey. Another horse with a great
future here at Nyanza.
Forrest

Forrest is not registered but makes up for the lack of
papers with his good looks and wonderful performance. A lovely big solid dun,
Forrest is the horse to take you wherever you want to go.

Irish mare Malang Lou.
‘Opti’ is gorgeous and knows it! One of those geniuses who
is definitely not a conformer, but is
so talented she is one of the best

an easy ride, but for those with courage and ability Opti is the horse to go to
the top with.
Manetuwi Many Stars

A very talented, good looking young horse, noted for his
good nature and willingness to always try his best at whatever he does. Manetuwi

Appaloosa/TB
gelding
Another of our young Appaloosa’s, Kamaspot is a striking
tri-colour leopard spot.
A very intelligent young horse, Kamaspot shows the promise
of becoming one of our top performers. As he is still young, he is just starting
out on his career and we have great hopes for him.
Just an Illusion
An eye catching chestnut Thoroughbred, Illusion is one of
our golden oldies who at the age of 16 has retired from serious competition and
is now helping our pupils as a schoolmaster. Illusion competed very successfully
as a young horse, loved competitions, and still gets very excited at the
prospect of taking his riders to gain experience in the arena.

Some of our Retired Horses

our old schoolmasters who have served us faithfully and wholeheartedly over the
years - a certain Mr. C is making sure that his retirement package is as long
and as peaceful as possible!

a lifetime of service in the riding school and in the show arena.
